Funding

Of primary importance for a film commission/office is how it will fund its operations from year to year. Again, this is closely linked to the office’s mission and the tasks involved in meeting that mission; and the range of film budgets is as vast as the world of film itself. (Budgets will be explored in subsequent segments).

For most film commissioners, proving the worth and effectiveness of their office is ongoing, often involving the presentation of statistics, reports, anecdotal information, and/or oral testimony.

While a large percentage of film commissions/offices are government entities and funded as such, other film offices have to fend for themselves and are in a constant state of proposal and grant-writing, using any means possible for keeping their doors open.

Regardless, funding should never be taken for granted and knowing the value and importance of a film commission is key to acquiring funding.
